International Money Transfers in Cambodia: A Guide

How international transfers work

International money transfers allow you to send or receive funds across borders through licensed financial networks. In Cambodia, the two main channels available through commercial banks are the SWIFT interbank network and the Ria Money Transfer remittance service. Each has different use cases, limits, and fee structures that suit different sender and recipient needs.

SWIFT transfers: for bank-to-bank wires

SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) is the global standard for bank-to-bank wire transfers. When you receive a SWIFT transfer at ACLEDA Bank, the funds are credited directly to your account, typically within 4 hours during business hours. ACLEDA Bank currently offers free inbound SWIFT transfers until the end of 2026. To receive, share your account number and the bank's SWIFT/BIC code with the sender.

Ria Money Transfer: for instant cash remittances

Ria is one of the world's largest money transfer networks, with hundreds of thousands of agent locations globally. Transfers via Ria are deposited instantly into your ACLEDA Bank account. Limits are up to $10,000 USD or 40 million KHR per transaction, with no cap on the number of daily transactions. Ria is particularly popular for family remittances from abroad.

What to bring when collecting a transfer

To receive an international transfer, you will need a valid national ID card or passport. For Ria transfers, you will also need the transfer reference number provided by the sender. For SWIFT transfers, funds are deposited directly to your account — no additional steps are needed after the sender initiates the wire.

Tips for saving on transfer fees

Compare the total cost of a transfer, including both the sender's fee and the exchange rate margin. SWIFT transfers to ACLEDA Bank are currently fee-free for recipients. For sending money abroad, ask your bank about correspondent bank fees which can add to the total cost. Always confirm the exchange rate before committing, especially for large transfers.
